Banana Republic Sleeveless Safari Dress

The weather has cooled down quite a bit here in KC, so my fave denim jacket is definitely on rotation.  I basically slip this on over any summery dress for a more weather appropriate look.

Also, Bloomies F&F sale starts today, so take 20% off with code FRIENDS + free shpp & free returns.

Last of the Summer

G & I are holding onto our summer wardrobe before it gets too cold! I already see people are busting out their Fall decor, but we'll take the last of the warm days!

I love this striped dress from Crew. It's one of my favorite shapes, and this vibrant color can make any cold day -- bright and sunny.

How's your summer to fall transition going?

Red Car; Red Dress

Hello and happy Monday to you all! These photos were snapped while on vacation with my family in Michigan (see the Janes in Michigan here, here, & here).  The weather was awesome, though mosquitos were definitely out to play during the night.  And unfortunately, those mosquitos love me; I even used one of these little mosquito fans to keep 'em away, but to no avail.  My legs ended up looking like this.

VS Anniversary Dress

G and I just celebrated our first anniversary! We went back to our "first date" spot for a lovely dinner, and met up with some friends for some late night drinks.

You know I'm never one to shy away from crazy, bright colors -- so for this big event, I'm wearing a one of my favorite dresses. I picked up this from the VS catalogue a few years back. What I love about VS is that they will continually update their prints, but the dress shape stays true -- season to season.  I love the loud colors in the pieces, but the corset shape and flared bottom are the big selling points. It's a super fun dress for any occasion, and I highly recommend.

Happy Anniversary my dear G!

Target Xhilaration Juniors Sleeveless Low Bow Dress

Style: I love these bow dresses!  They remind me a lot of Ms. Pillsbury from Glee, and I've always loved her style. This dress is easy breezy, and it is easily appropriate for the fall and winter seasons, but it's sleeveless, so it works for the warmer months, as well.  The bow -- when it comes untied -- is a little bit low, so when rocking this dress, you just have to be a little cognizant. This dress comes in two other colors: a pretty red floral print & a yellow and green print.
Fit: Junior sizing is typically shorter -- think teeny tiny Forever 21 dresses -- so I went a size up to get a length that's more appropriate for work; unfortunately, that left me with armholes that are too big.  I really do like this dress, though so it may be worth a few simple alterations.
Quality: 100% polyester & machine washable.
Price: I found this adorably sweet dress from Target for $25.
Bottom Line: My two biggest complaints are the overly large arm openings & the lack of pockets, but otherwise, I'm a big fan. :)

What do you think? Do you think it's worth paying for some alterations or even DIY-ing it.  I can barely sew a button onto my shirt though, so I don't know how realistic going the DIY route is. :)

Sunshine & Good Deals

For some reason, I never wear yellow. It's a color that I do not gravitate towards, but found a nice eyelet top on sale at Anthropologie, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm digging it -- so, I'll be on the lookout for more!

Also, there seems to be deals every time I open my e-mail. I see promos from Loft, Ann Taylor, B. Republic, Crew, etc. Retailers are all about Fall style. And, Target just announced Phillip Lim -- his clothes are looking chic for men and women! #PhillipLimforTarget

I've been digital "window shopping" and have been eyeing another bright number -- this Fall jacket from Banana Republic in orange. It's really cute, so I'm waiting for a good deal.

What are you shopping for this fall?

Pure Michigan

Ahh.. pure Michigan. The family & I spent this past Labor Day chillaxing in MI. On our trip we visited Jake's Country Meats, a natural pork spot. We also spent time at the beach and ate a ton of great food. Nothing is better than family, vacation and food!

I found this fun, bright dress at a shop in California, and I absolutely love it. It comfortable and is a bit punk. I just found a similar version in a fall appropriate print from Roxy. Their dresses are the epitome of California cool.

Why are Sunglasses so Expensive?

Sun's out - Guns out. Summer's winding down, but I've definitely stepped up my sunglasses game in the past year or so. Whenever I'm outside, I'm usually rocking some of my favorite shades to add a little extra style and to protect my eyes.

Since catching this story on 60 minutes about why sunglasses are so expensive, I've been considering alternatives to glasses produced by Luxottica (everything from Vogue to Ralph Lauren to Ray-Ban to Prada to Chanel. The Janes do rock shades produced by the eyewear giant (see herehere, and here) and especially enjoy the Prada 01os as well as the Ray-Ban folding wayfarer.).

Some of those alternatives include eyewear produced by another eyewear giant Saflio Brands (Kate Spade, Celine, Banana Republic), Luxottica's biggest competitor, Wal-Mart, as well as brands like Maui Jim.  We've definitely dabbled with Maui Jim and our sister-in-law loves 'em, but I've been on the look out for a more affordable option.  Inevitably, sunglasses get dropped, scratched, lost in the lake, and/or stepped on. That's where brands like Warby Parker come into play; their eyewear starts at $95 (including polarized sunnies!) and go up from there for prescription lenses with more bells and whistles.  That's a pretty solid deal, in my experience.  And Ailyn is a former four-eyes (from the time she was 10 until just last year when she finally got LASIK!).  I know she always wanted to have multiple frames to match different looks; honestly, though, prescription frames and lenses are expensive, so more than 1 pair of prescription glasses was definitely prohibitive.

We've yet to actually try out Warby Parker, so we can't vouch for the quality nor the fit, but they have a neat little try-on at home program, where you can sample 5 different pairs so you know what works with you, your lifestyle, how comfy they are, etc.  I know that I never really knew how comfortable a pair of eyeglasses actually were until I'd already purchased them and rocked 'em for more than 12 hours, so I think this program is pretty awesome. Check out the Everett style (below), which I've been eyeing (pun intended!) for a while.  Have you tried Warby Parker?

Let us know where you typically pick up your favorite pairs of glasses!

Target Merona Women's Ponte Stripe Dress Review

FitFit: A bit too long on my 5'3" frame, but otherwise the fit is decently true to size.
Style: This comes in two different colors: the one I'm rocking here and a navy & red version.  The stripes are designed to flatter, but I'm not sure they work on me.
Quality: 76% Polyester, 20% Rayon, & 4% Spandex -- machine washable.  It's totally opaque, so it's unlined, but no lining is necessary.  This doesn't wrinkle very much, which I really appreciate.
Price: It currently retails for $27.99 at Target, which I feel like is a fair price for the quality of the dress, especially since you can get 20% off a purchase of $75+ at Target.com.
Bottom Line: I returned this dress.  I don't think it's actually that flattering on me, so I ended up returning.  Even though the quality is nice, I'd have to shorten the dress at the waist to maintain the stripe-y proportions of the dress.  For me, it really wasn't worth it, though I have seen this look really lovely on some other ladies.

You may have noticed that I've been posting a fair number of reviews, and that's because I've been doing a ton of online shopping recently -- it's gotten a little out of control, but I can't help but take advantage of the great end of season deals.  To be honest, though, I am returning the vast majority of my purchases.  Have you purchased any winners lately? :)

Feminine Eyelet Tank

Isn't Ailyn awesome? She does the best reviews

Today, I'm wearing a great fitting tank. This black eyelet from Gap reminds me of traditional, Mexican attire with the fit and pattern cutout in the front. I think this silhouette is particularly flattering on many shapes, and this tank is very sweet. I've also tried to pair this at work with a pencil skirt and cardigan. It has a similar effect in the office, feminine and flowy. Pieces like this are awesome because they are versatile in the office and on the weekends.

Bright Roxy One Shoulder

I hope you had a great holiday! The family and I headed up to MI for the long weekend!

I also recently visited a local festival. Like Ailyn, I love any place with lemon shakeups! And, I'm totally into this one-shouldered dress from Roxy. This dress is awesome and packs a lot of punch in this one shouldered piece.
